Brett and Laura

They weren’t supposed to be engagement photos, they were just for fun. To remember what life was like back when they were whole and in love. Definitely not engagement photos. You see readers, a few short months ago Brett’s monthly blood tests had come back showing elevated tumor markers, and soon after, his body quit responding to the traditional chemo treatments. It was terminal. The devastation was made complete with his decision that he could not tie his life with the girl he loved, the girl that he had started falling in love with the very night before the fateful ct scan that has dictated his life well over a year ago. The girl that held his hand during bone marrow transplants and chemo treatments, and blood draws. The girl who had danced with him to Sinatra. He couldn’t see putting this beautiful girl through the pain of losing a spouse after an inevitably short married life. He thought it was the best decision given the circumstances. She reluctantly agreed. And so we took the NOT engagement photos. They were happy to be together, vibrant, in love, but sometimes melancholy. And two days later they changed their minds. As a result of some radiation on his brain Brett had a seizure and the scare was what it took to convince them that in the precious time they have left, they wanted, needed, to commit their lives to one another in the very strongest bond of marriage.
They have decided to get married on the beach in San Diego in an intimate ceremony surrounded by immediate family. As word has gotten out, angels all over San Diego have volunteered their wedding services, caterers, wedding planners, makeup artists, florists, DJ’s, all want to help this couple celebrate life, love, and the commitment.
Words fail to describe the gamet of emotion, from joy to deep gratitude that we all feel for this upcoming wedding. Laura and Brett, thank you thank you for your courage, your example, your hope and your love. Please readers, join me in wishing them an amazing celebration and an equally amazing life together.
And since no blogpost is complete without photos, here they are, the NOT engagement photos!

Such a wirlwind of excitement these past few days have held. I am completely speechless and in awe at all the many people that are pouring forth to help and donate so many things for this Friday. Shows me the true nature of the human heart.
It’s been so touching and incredible to watch the two of them grow together. We’re so excited to officially welcome Laura into the chaos that is the family. Love you, Brett and Laura!
This is a good blog message, I will keep the post in my mind. If you can add more video and pictures can be much better. Because they help much clear understanding.
thanks Dzhanibekov.
I’ve known Laura for many years now and watched her grow and mature into this beautiful young woman. She has one of the purest and kindest hearts, so this tender story doesn’t surprise me. Although I’ve not had the pleasure of meeting him, I am sure that Brett must also be full of overflowing love and kindness. Laura and Brett, your pictures are beautiful. You reflect wonderful love between each other and are also a sparkling reflection of Christ’s love! I will pray for your many blissful years of happiness and health together! You are so loved!

I should really stop reading this post. I’ve read it a few times and I’m concerned that my coworkers are starting to wonder why I have teary eyes frequently. I keep a bottle of eye drops next to my desk to blame it on.
Carrie – your wrote such an amazing and touching post. You really captured the moment so well and no one can help but feel emotion as they read it. Thank you.

Laura…your story is amazing!!! You both look beyond happy!!!!! Congratulations!!!!! Enjoy every moment!!!!!
I am deeply touched by seeing and reading about your journey. The Fafards have always been in my heart. I love them all so much. I have felt bonded to your mom Jan from the beginning. I smile at the memories of having Fafards in my home. (well maybe not the firecrackers near the lawn mower memory, that’s more like a nightmare)
I have had my own set of trials lately, but through your story it helps put it all in a much better perspective. Life and love – that’s what it’s all about. Congrats Brett and Laura. Thanks for the reminder to cherish each and every moment that you have, and be thankful that it doesn’t end here on earth. Thank you for touching our lives and helping me get through the hard times.

Wow!… The story itself is amazing! Carrie, I don’t know you, I just happened to be looking thru some photography sites because I have always and forever been interested in photography of all forms. I happened to come across your name and info on a “How to Learn Photography” site. And when I read your info, I decided to look at your photography because I could relate. And so happy I did. This story is incredible and the pictures are beautiful! I love that you wrote about your couples and posted pictures. How special that is. How lucky for you to be part of it and be able to capture some very special moments. I hope one day I will be able to do the same for people. Thank-you for sharing, and thank-you to your couples for allowing you to.
Sincerely,
Tia
