The DODO

I had a guy refer to Mike this weekend as a DODO, dad of daughters only. I laughed and then spent some time observing all that being a DODO entails for my poor husband. Here is a basic list of some of the things that Mike did for his wife and two daughters between Friday and Sunday of this week. Most of the worst requests came from me but still, this man could use a round of golf, no girls allowed!
1. Practiced high fashion high glamour poses specifically intended for sexy women. (I was watching Creative Live and wanted to try them out..)
2. Stuck his hand inside a boot “to make sure no mice or snakes had crawled in and died before I put it on.”
3. Skied the bunny slope for half hour while towing a 60 pound first grader up a rope tow, bought a chair lift pass, used the chair lift once, and promptly returned to the tow rope with the same 60 pounder because she was scared of the lift.
4. Cleaned the entire house from top to bottom.
5. Chased two little girls around with a “crazy chicken” because it made them laugh and wore them out for bedtime.
6. Watched exactly 30 minutes of Once Upon a Time.
7. Cut out and assembled a tree house made from a cereal box, complete with swing set and slides.
8. Performed funerals for Orbees that had passed on. I believe there were seven. So seven separate funerals.
9. Edited two years of home videos so Mia could see what she looked like when she was a baby.
10. Walked back and forth to the kitchen getting drinks of water for all three of his girls, me included, because we forgot to get them before we went to bed.
The list could go on, but I think that these few things will give you a snippet of what our very special DODO does every weekend without complaint. Here are a few pics I snapped of the “ski trip” that I thought would be indicative of what a fantastic father we have on our hands. Best. DODO. EVER.
WPPI (revisited)

Let me tell you something that I learned again this weekend, readers. There is nothing like spending time with good girlfriends. It is like the icing on the cake of the rest of a pretty good life and every once in a while you meet friends you are lucky to have and you know it. That is how I feel about the group of ladies I meet up with every year at WPPI. I adore them, I have things in common with them, I support them whole heartedly and I feel that same support coming back at me. I came home with an overwhelming feeling of good fortune to have met them all.
That being said, as usual, I came home from WPPI with an overwhelming sense of “I can do better” too, as far as the photography is concerned, and that is a good thing. I am challenging myself to revisit my camera and start creating art. Unfortunately whenever I feel like I can do better, I also need a little something to boost up my ego again, so I went through my photos and randomly chose a handful of my favorites, so that is what i am posting here. Just some photos that make me remember a particular joyful moment I had shooting it. Enjoy!
February

It’s the beginning of my birthday month readers, and while I am super excited about my upcoming present (I told Mike I wanted to go back in time and visit a real live plantation since I am reading Gone with the Wind, he seems psyched about doing that for me…) I have a birthday related question I would like to pose here on the world wide web for some feedback. When it is your birthday and you are in the (sometimes uncomfortable) position of having a group of people sing Happy Birthday to you, ie: waiters at a restaurant, people in your workplace, your dad and his wife who call you on speaker phone, etc… what is the appropriate facial response? Do I smile and wave? Is it appropriate to jump in and sing along, should I make eye contact? Listen, this dilemma has been plaguing me for quite some time and this year, my~ahem~ 29th year, I am going to find out. So please, any well mannered person who may be reading this post, please feel free to weigh in on the topic.
In other news, I was able to attend a really great By Invitation Only dinner held in at the incredible Adamas showroom. The energy in this beautiful space was so great, the food was beautiful, the hosts were, as always, perfect and the entertainment was Jenny Jordan Frogley with David Halliday on the sax, these two are incredible, amazing, could have listened to them all night. Have you been to a By Invitation Only dinner before? Be sure and check out the Facebook page for more information!
